Avalos P-TECH student members of the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy traveled to Oleson Elementary for a special reading event. The academy was charged with dispersing children’s books about the importance of kindness to local elementary schools. Coach Pellerin, the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy sponsor, wanted a more meaningful experience for both her high school students and the elementary students. She coordinated with Oleson Elementary’s assistant principal, Ms. Torres, to make the experience a read-aloud event. Ms. Torres aligned the read-aloud to the school’s SEL curriculum. What better time than during SEL to read and talk about the importance of kindness and acceptance! Oleson’s first and second grade classes were paired up with Avalos P-TECH Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy members for the read-aloud. The students truly enjoyed their time together! Most of the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy students who participated are freshman students in the Teaching and Training Pathway. To be able to step into a classroom was super exciting and memorable for these future educators!
