Rose M. Avalos P-TECH seniors in the Inspection Technology Pathway were invited to the Greater Houston Area Society for Non-Destructive Testing’s (GHASNT) monthly meeting on January 12, 2023. GHASNT is the world’s largest and most active local section with a membership of over 1,000 non-destructive testing (NDT) professionals. The section provides a forum for the exchange of NDT related technical information, opportunities for peer networking for technicians, management, engineers, students, and others working in the NDT community.
Section President, Stacie Cottie, invited the Avalos P-TECH students and team to the January meeting. Several industry experts spoke to the students about the different opportunities available in the field. They offered their advice on getting started upon graduation in May 2023. They also shared their own journey on how they found their passion in NDT.
GHASNT sponsored the students’ attendance. After enjoying a fabulous steak meal and networking with NDT professionals speaker Jonathan Martinez, Fixed Equipment Reliability Lead at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, presented about Organization and Reliability Culture. The message was relevant and resonated with the Avalos P-TECH students and team.
It is customary that the GHASNT board members gift the four non-members a year’s membership. The GHASNT board was so gracious and decided to present all fourteen Avalos P-TECH NDT students with a year’s GHASNT membership. The benefits of a GHASNT membership include, access to mentoring resources, access to career and job resources, eligibility to apply to scholarships, grants and fellowships, and many more. We are very thankful for their partnership!
