Dr. Cierra Nickerson
Principal

Dr. Cierra B. Nickerson is a dedicated educational leader who’s passionate about fostering student success and cultivating positive school environments. With extensive experience in education, she has a proven track record of improving academic outcomes and enhancing school culture. Her expertise includes school leadership, instructional coaching, and community engagement.

Dr. Nickerson earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in K-12 Educational Leadership from Baylor University, her Master of Education (Ed.M.) in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston, and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. 

Dr. Federico Hernandez
Associate Principal

Dr. Federico Hernandez is extremely proud and honored to serve as the Curriculum Assistant Principal at Avalos P-TECH. He is a proud father of four and husband to a wife who is an amazing kindergarten teacher. He was originally born in Mexico but raised here in Houston, Texas, since the age of seven. This is his 27^th year of serving in public education, where he served 18 years in the mathematics classroom and 8 years in administrative roles. 

As an administrator, he has served as Dean of Instruction, Associate Principal, Principal, and Curriculum Assistant Principal. He attended the University of Houston for his Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral programs. Additionally, he completed the Rice University Robert Noyce Fellowship program and the Executive Leadership program from the Rice University School of Business. He believes that education is the key to our future and that by working together with students, teachers, parents/guardians, and community members, we can help our students meet their academic and life goals. Together we will guide our rising Phoenixes to soar on to success in all of their academic and future endeavors.
